Bill of Material (BOM)

Last updated: July 20, 2023
An ordered list of physical items, with quantities, that identifies the specific configuration of an assembled item in a hierarchical manner, on a single level, or through any number of levels.
A BOM is normally created and maintained to depict the raw materials, components and assemblies required to manufacture an end-item, as it defines the type, number, quantity and relationships of parts and assemblies. A BOM can be defined for a specific purpose:
  • To identify specific assemblies and their components with quantities to manufacture a complete object, or
  • To identify a group of items required to maintain a specific item.
